Marissa started her singing career at Grand
Central, where she serenaded a bunch of people who were too busy trying
to figure out
where the heck they were going. Her hit debut, "subways ACE to the
left, 123 to the right"
made the top 10 homeless chart. After saving up enough money from her performances
to pay for college, she attended Rutgers, and moved her performing career
to the New Brunswick Train Station. It was there that one of Kol Halayla's
very own spotted her talent, and invited her to join.
And although it's still a little awkward to panhandle while we sing, we're
getting used to it.

This
is Avital's seond year in Kol Halayla. Besides for KH, Avital enjoys
organic chemistry, chinese water torture, and playing her guitar. She's
really good at guitar and is a novice songwriter as well.
Keep a look out for her impending album entitled "Rebelling Doubt" with
featured songs, "Three Legged table", "Nutritious Monsters",
and "Fleishpobia." Hasta Luago and Don't hate me because I'm
beautiful!

Jenny Kessler comes to us from all the way up North, the
great state of Maine, though she promises she spent lots of time in Boston
(GO RED SOX!). From elementary school through high school, she was involved
in many different choirs, eventually leading her high school choir for
two years. Besides her position as a Kol Halayla Alto, Jenny also enjoys
side ponytails, cheese, free samples, dancing, and long walks on the beach
(no joke). |
Although Mrs. Sage is the newest member of the group,
she is by far the wisest, having exhibiting wisdom and calm judgment. She
also has aromatic grayish-green, opposite leaves, which can be used in
flavoring foods and as a mild tonic and astringent. And as a a perennial
mint of the genus Salvia, Abby brings a new freshness to the group that
has never before been seen.

Hi, I'm David, I'm 19 or 20 depending on
when you read this, I'm from Teaneck, NJ, I'm bisectional and I've been
clean for 10
months now, on the 12 half step program. (get it, that was a music joke.)
Anyway, this is my second year in Kol Halayla and after some much needed "self" time
over the summer, I realized my true voice as a tenor, although it took
me a long time to actually admit it. I do sing bass occasionally, so I
consider myself a bisectional, as I mentioned above, rather than homosectional.
In fact, I also do a little vocal percussion so I could consider myself,
trisectional. Ok, I know what your saying, "enough with the jokes,
I get it, and it's not funny." It's fine, I get it all the time from
the female members of the group, they just don't get my humor. Anyway,
moving along, I'm a sophomore here at good ol' Rutgers University studying
Music Education. I spend too much time watching TV, not enough studying,
and just about enough time writing original arrangements and stupid parodies
which you will probably never hear, nor probably want to hear, trust me.
I have an unusual fascination with eagles and fetuses, or as I like to
put it, feti, but others in the group will tell you it's gone beyond fascination
into an unhealthy obsession. (Don't ask me where that came from, it's a
long story, and one I'd like to forget.) On a more serious note, (get it
that was also a music joke), but ok seriously, I've been singing for about
three and half years now, starting in Camp Ramah in the Berkshires, and
continuing on to Hazamir, and then here Kol Halayla. Before that, I played
trumpet for about 9 years, taking private lessons, and playing in my High
School Marching, Concert, and Jazz bands. That's right, I know, I was a
band nerd. But to offset that, I was on the wrestling team for four years,
even we weren't that good, but that still counts. I don't what else to
say, so I'm gonna stop here. If I keep going I'll probably end up telling
much more about myself that you probably don't want to know, and that I
don't
want you to know. So, if you are interested in some other stuff I have
to say, come to one of our concerts, and ask me in person. Just so you
know, I'll be the one in the front waving his hands around during all the
songs, cause that's really all the Musical Director does, wave his hands
around during performances. See you there.
